PUG, together with the South African Cities Network and the Gauteng City-Region Observatory hosted an online knowledge event that discussed the Off-grid Cities project and the recently published Governance of the Just Urban Transition research paper.

Fiona Anciano and Christina Culwick Fatti presented a joint reflection on these two projects, followed by a panel discussion with Dhesigen Naidoo (South African Presidential Climate Commission), Tracy Ledger (Public Affairs Research Institute) and Anthea Stephens (National Treasury Cities Support Programme). Reflections from city officials, Nomvula Mofokeng and Ondela Tywakadi from the City of Johannesburg, and Daniel Sullivan from the City of Cape Town, provided practical perspectives.

The event wasattended by 221 people who participated in robust and engaged debate. Samkelisiwe Khanyile (Gauteng City-Region Observatory) facilitated the online event, with Danga Mughogho (South African Cities Network) providing welcome and closing remarks. This event lays the foundation for future engagements as part of the GoJUT project.
