Participedia serves as an open-sourced online research tool that compiles articles and case studies on participatory democracy. It was developed to fill a gap in data collection regarding participatory governance practices worldwide. The platform allows users to contribute content while maintaining high standards for data quality and accessibility. It provides comparative information on governance experiences across different contexts.
Research and Collaboration: As part of the POL822 ‘Contemporary Democratic Theory and Practice’ Module taught at the Political Studies Department at UWC, Masters Students developed cases on participatory innovations in Africa to showcase more cases of participatory methods in Africa.
Leadership Roles: Professor Fiona Anciano, the founder of PUG, serves as a co-chair of the Participedia Democratic Accountability Cluster. Her leadership emphasises the group’s commitment to enhancing participatory governance practices.
Outputs:
Participedia has produced various outputs, including case studies, research articles, and educational materials that support the understanding and implementation of participatory democracy.
